Family Portrait in Prairie Grass
By Jim Juhl on February 17, 2012
It was another beautiful fall day, especially for early November. I had the good fortune of spending an hour with Scott and Peggy Adams and their family at Blue Mounds State Park which lies just north of Luverne. This was their favorite image probably because of the unlikely hand holding of their two sons! That’s [...]

Touch The Sky Prairie Moonrise
By Jim Juhl on January 7, 2012
It was an amazing day, for early January, that brought me to Touch the Sky Prairie northwest of Luverne. No snow, clear skies and a high temperaturature of 45 makes it hard to stay inside on what should be a cold blustery day. The low angle of this January afternoon sun reveals the texture in [...]

Luverne Cardinal Football Section Win
By Jim Juhl on October 28, 2011
Some days it seems like you’re always on the wrong side of the field. Luverne scored six touchdowns and Matt Overgaards second quarter reception was the only one I managed to capture. Photos from Tuesday’s game are in the gallery. Good Luck Cards! Jim JuhlJim Juhl is photographer and owner of Myhre Studio in Luverne, [...]

Luverne Marching Band
By Jim Juhl on October 11, 2011
It’s so cool that the drum majors get uniforms with capes. Who else gets capes? Superheroes. So in my book, that makes drum majors superheroes. Look at the power they wield over an entire field of musicians. Have you ever tried to get a musician to do anything? They’re a bunch of free-spirited creative types [...]

Touch The Sky Prairie Moonrise
It was an amazing day, for early January, that brought me to Touch the Sky Prairie northwest of Luverne. No snow, clear skies and a high temperaturature of 45 makes it hard to stay inside on what should be a cold blustery day. The low angle of this January afternoon sun reveals the texture in a sea of prairie grass with the almost full winter moon rising in the east.
This image is the combination of seven separate vertical images panning the camera left to right. These were adjusted in Lightroom and merged to a panorama in Photoshop. The resulting image is very high resolution and would make a 60 inch print without any loss in sharpness.
Prairie Orchids in Bloom at Touch The Sky Prairie
Brenda and I were up early on Sunday morning to take in the sunrise at Touch the Sky Prairie just north of Luverne. The prairie is coming into it’s most colorful times of year with many species of plants in full bloom. The prairie orchid has been an endangered plant species since 1989 but with the ten-year old prairie restoration project at Touch the Sky and a summer of ample rain, the endangered orchid has reestablished itself. The orchid is a plant of incredible beauty and significance; beautiful in it’s delicate flower structure and significant as it indicates the success of the renewed prairie.
