National Guard Unit Returns Home To Luverne
By Jim Juhl on May 11, 2012
It’s good to have daddy home. Luverne’s National Guardsmen returned to hugs and kisses after a long year of serving our country in the Mideast. It was a perfect spring day for a fire department escort to the Luverne Armory. Jim JuhlJim Juhl is photographer and owner of Myhre Studio in Luverne, MN where he [...]

Family Portrait in Prairie Grass
By Jim Juhl on February 17, 2012
It was another beautiful fall day, especially for early November. I had the good fortune of spending an hour with Scott and Peggy Adams and their family at Blue Mounds State Park which lies just north of Luverne. This was their favorite image probably because of the unlikely hand holding of their two sons! That’s [...]

Touch The Sky Prairie Moonrise
By Jim Juhl on January 7, 2012
It was an amazing day, for early January, that brought me to Touch the Sky Prairie northwest of Luverne. No snow, clear skies and a high temperaturature of 45 makes it hard to stay inside on what should be a cold blustery day. The low angle of this January afternoon sun reveals the texture in [...]

Luverne Cardinal Football Section Win
By Jim Juhl on October 28, 2011
Some days it seems like you’re always on the wrong side of the field. Luverne scored six touchdowns and Matt Overgaards second quarter reception was the only one I managed to capture. Photos from Tuesday’s game are in the gallery. Good Luck Cards! Jim JuhlJim Juhl is photographer and owner of Myhre Studio in Luverne, [...]

Pictures with Santa Saturday
We are taking photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus again this year during Luverne’s Winterfest celebration. Photos will be Saturday, December 4th from 11AM to 1PM at the Luverne Elementary School Commons. This year we have a Polar Express background with a set decorated by George Bonnema of Luverne Flowers.
Suggested donation is $15 or more. All proceeds to benefit Luverne’s S.H.A.R.E. Inc. The cost is different than last year when we charged $15. We will be using the number system again so you don’t have to wait in line. Also new this year, I will put your child’s photo on Facebook if you so desire.
Dr. James “Bob” Juhl
My father, James Robert Juhl, died on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 5:45 PM at the Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 88. His 59 day struggle after succumbing to a staph infection, a complication of prostate cancer, had ended. Thank you Lord Jesus for your grace and mercy and for my earthly father that has given me so much. May I be as generous and thoughtful as he has been.
Window Shopping
It’s with sadness that I post this next photo. A ray of sunshine has just set in this sometimes dismal world we live in. Johnny Johnson, the kind of person that always brought a smile to my face, passed away on Thursday, November 18th. I caught this image of Johnny and his wife Rose walking down Main Street on October 6th while I was photographing a client out in front of the studio. It looks to me like they are window shopping.
My father has been in the Luverne Hospice Cottage for just over two weeks and we don’t expect to make another with him. He, like Johnny is a World War II veteran and part of the Last Man’s Club in Luverne.
State Bound!
The Luverne Cardinal Football team capitalized on mistakes made by the Jackson County Central Huskie’s offense to win the section championship 35 to 23. The lighting at Marshall’s Matke field is outstanding. The lights are positioned at the four corners of the field and lower than if they were over the stands. This coupled with a camera on loan from Canon (the 5D MKII) resulted in images where the players’ faces are clear.

Levitating coaches are just one part of the Cardinal Football Machine.

Disappointing Loss
It was close. In the last seconds of the game Within a two point conversion. Not to be. The Cardinal football team ended their regular season with a 13-15 loss to the Marshall Tigers. Photos in the gallery here.
Jordan
I guess you could say that danger is Jordan’s middle name, danger and speed, at least if you consider how hot his running shoes are. I don’t like doing Photoshop fire so this is the real thing and yes, it smelled like burning track shoes.
Shawn
You would never guess by the photos but the bugs were vicious. Neither dog nor man was immune from their constant attack. But at least the really sweet Mustang didn’t have any trouble with being eaten alive. Thanks to Shawn for sticking it out with the adverse conditions and for being just a great guy to work with.
Luverne Girls Tennis Section Victory
Thursday was a beautiful fall day for just about anything outdoor so why not tennis? Luverne Girls Section Tennis to be exact. I had wanted to photograph the team for quite some time and due to a change in plans, I had an afternoon open – a rare treat this time of year. The lower angle of the sun made for great light and the new Luverne courts make for a great background.
I have about 70 images in the gallery. As always, players and their fans are free to copy these images and use them but please leave the logo in tact. If you want to purchase prints or the full resolution file, you can use the shopping cart. Please use the contact link at the bottom of the page if you have problems.
