Touch The Sky Prairie Moonrise

It was an amazing day, for early January, that brought me to Touch the Sky Prairie northwest of Luverne. No snow, clear skies and a high temperaturature of 45 makes it hard to stay inside on what should be a cold blustery day. The low angle of this January afternoon sun reveals the texture in a sea of prairie grass with the almost full winter moon rising in the east.

This image is the combination of seven separate vertical images panning the camera left to right. These were adjusted in Lightroom and merged to a panorama in Photoshop. The resulting image is very high resolution and would make a 60 inch print without any loss in sharpness.

Luverne Cardinal Football Section Win

Some days it seems like you’re always on the wrong side of the field. Luverne scored six touchdowns and Matt Overgaards second quarter reception was the only one I managed to capture.  Photos from Tuesday’s game are in the gallery. Good Luck Cards!

The best touchdown photo of the year, almost. Brett Heronimous’s airborne touchdown effort against the Trojans was called back for a penalty.

Luverne Marching Band

It’s so cool that the drum majors get uniforms with capes. Who else gets capes? Superheroes. So in my book, that makes drum majors superheroes. Look at the power they wield over an entire field of musicians. Have you ever tried to get a musician to do anything? They’re a bunch of free-spirited creative types that are long on fun and short on, well, let’s just say it would take a superhero to get them to march together. It reminds me of that Todd Rundgren song about not working as much as drumming.

Photos from the Luverne Marching Band’s two halftime performances on September 23rd and October 7th are in one gallery HERE. I was on the east side of the field for the first performance and the west for the second. I learned the hard way that photographing a trombone player from their left side does not make for a great photo because their instrument covers their face, so that’s why there’s only a couple of trombones from the October performance.

Photos in the band gallery are for your viewing pleasure. I do this because I enjoy it. Feel free to print them out for your scrapbook or whatever. If you put one on Facebook, please tag me in the logo. Prints are also for sale for a nominal fee. They are hosted through SmugMug and  printed and shipped from Bay Photo in California.

Senior Photo Shoot at Historic Luverne Home

It’s always a treat to go to someone’s home for an location senior session but when the home is the beautiful and historic Holm house, it turns into a double treat. Luverne High School Senior Londyn and her family have lived in the house with the big white pillars for a few  years and it’s really a beautiful location to photograph a beautiful girl.

Photos from this year’s 2011 Rock County 4H Horse Games Show are now in the gallery. It was a hot day but thanks to our veteran superintendents, the show ran quickly and without a hitch. Here are a few of my favorites.

Stick to Photography

I have called myself a recovering hog farmer from time to time.  I left the life of farming about 10 years ago when I began to  pursue  photography full time. Every once in a while I find myself attempting a little hog farming and it never fails to remind me why I’m a photographer. This morning Brenda and I hauled three pigs to the Ellsworth Locker and it was an adventure. I’ll leave out most of the exciting details but let’s just say the adventure part began with a tractor not starting and ended with changing a shredded tire on the trailer. My experience with farming had me expecting the worst and so I was prepared with jack, tire iron and spare tire. By the way this image is take with my android phone and was correctly composed using the rule of thirds.
