Almost!I thought it was going to happen again. The ole’ Luverne comeback in the last few seconds of the game. But it was not meant to be. Congratulations to the Luverne Cardinal football team for a stellar season of football. A big thank you to Bill Korth who graciously gave up his side line pass so I could go on the field and get these photos. Photos in the Gallery here. Taylor Mulder’s 4th quarter touchdown.

Luverne Cardinal PrideI don't know about you but I'm proud to be from Luverne. It's a great place to live and have a business and raise a family. Every once and a while something happens to reinforce that sense of pride in our community. I witnessed that Friday night on a football field. I suppose you could say that every come from behind win is like that. We always root for the underdog. More so when we're the underdog. But this felt different. It seemed like one of those movies, you know, the kind where the dramatic music starts playing in the background as the tide turns and the good guys pull ahead to a victory. It was like that in the 4th quarter when the Luverne defense made a goal line stand against a powerful JCC offense; an offense that seemed to have no trouble advancing the ball earlier in the game. I thought to myself, "Even if the home team doesn't win, they can still be proud because they put up a valiant fight." But the Cardinals were not done. Two possessions later our boys drove 50 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown with 8 seconds remaining in the game. It was with determination and persistence the the game was won. The kind that makes you proud that it's your team. Congratulations Luverne Cardinal football on your section title. Photos here.
Cardinal Halloween Section WinThe Luverne football team is on to the section championship contest after besting the Pipestone Arrows 21-0 on a beautiful Halloween afternoon game. After a week of rain Cardinal field made for a muddy game. Below are a few favorites and the rest are in the gallery here.
#42 Collin Rofshus touchdown run.
#22 Taylor Mulder #57 Britton Stratton in on another tackle.

First Cardinal Football Section WinLuverne was victorious in their first section playoff game over MCW Tuesday. Jon Ehlers #67 recovered this fumble after the ball was dislodged from the kick receiver by #20 Nick Meyer late in the 4th quarter. That set the Cardinals up for #12 Richard Gonzalez to run in his second touchdown of the contest. Gallery here.
